Yeehaw Industries has a novel solution to a common problem for letterpress printers, especially commercial printers. With the majority of the wood and metal type we use not being in production for the last 40-50 years if a job calls for extra letters in a particular size of font you can’t just order more from your local supplier. Yeehaw Industries uses an industrial laser cutter to laser engrave type height blocks of wood into new type designs. Starting off primarily cutting missing letters for their library of type, they then moved onto laser cutting certain metal designs into wood. These designs would have originally been too complicated to produce via a pantograph but the level of detail that a laser can produce means these designs can now have a new lease of life.
